Construction for the Triango Wing Stem stem starts out with a solid 7075 grade aluminium billet. This is forged in a multi step process to create a strong and lightweight component. Forging involves literally pressing a metal block into shape under immense pressure, which better aligns the grain structure of a part. The finished product is stronger than simply machining away material to create the shape. Next, to allow for superior bonding for the carbon outer layer, the forged stem is CNC machined to generate a textured surface for the carbon to adhere to. A pre-cut carbon pattern is then applied to the stem exterior before the assembly is clamped into an aluminium mold. This is then placed in an autoclave under pressure and heat. The final part, made of highly compressed carbon fibre bonded to a rigid aluminium core, is extremely stiff and strong.
The face-plate of the Triango Wing stem is also forged from 7075 aluminium with a 3K carbon fibre exterior layer. Shaping of the clamp is a unique design for the Wing stem and permits greater surface area contact with the handlebar for a stiffer interface between the two parts. At its widest point the clamp is 47.5mm in width, and the square edged profile adds more material, again to minimise flex.
The Triango Wing stem is available in lengths from 70mm to 130mm in ten millimetre increments. The relatively standard negative 8 degree angle results in a slight 7-10 degree rise from horizontal when fitted on a road bike. The fork steerer clamp is dimensioned for standard 1 1/8” forks and the 41mm clamp height minimises the total fork steerer length to reduce weight.
